As you draw more you might start wondering how to take your drawings further, making images that go beyond the practical exercises of life and portrait studies. While painting is a common approach for artists, some often shy away from printmaking because they don’t understand what it is, so in this intensive one-day workshop we will explore the mysteries of print and reveal it’s potential.
Participants will be introduced to three of the main printmaking families; relief print, intaglio print and planographic print. Using the collection of printmaking presses on offer at Draw, we will explore collagraph, drypoint and kitchen lithography, finishing the day with three small print editions.
The session is open to all abilities & levels of experience and Scarlett will be on hand to guide you through the processes and to offer help and informal feedback throughout the day.
The session will start at 10am and you are welcome to arrive from 9:45. When you get to New England House you’ll need to come to the main doors next to the Building Managers Office on Level 3 and call the number on the door to be admitted. Once you’re at the session you’ll need to show a digital or printed receipt as proof of booking, then you’re ready to go! We’ll have several tea breaks over the course of the day and will take a lunch break in the afternoon.
Materials will be provided and you'll need to bring your own apron, reference imagery or a sketchbook, and a folder to take your prints home in at the end of the day.
After the workshop you are welcome to continue printing at the Draw studio at one of the Print Club sessions.
