Painting Portraits in Oils (8 week course)

Sara Reeve

[BOOK HERE]

In this 8 week evening class we will explore how to best use oil paints to create alla prima portraits – starting with the very basics of working with oil paints, and good housekeeping when using oil paints at home.   Each week we will introduce a new element to build your confidence working with oils – initially working in tone and then exploring colour mixing with limited palettes.  We will be working with a live model and will also be referencing a mix of contemporary and traditional artists for inspiration.

This course is ideal for students who’ve not used oil paint before or who would like to gain more confidence in their practise.   It will be a fun, relaxed course packed full of top tips & ideas for you to really start developing your own style.  Places are limited to 10 students and pre-booking is essential.

What to expect

This will be a hands on practical course where each week you will be creating portraits and developing your skills. We will be working most weeks from a clothed model.  There will be basic materials available at the studio, but students are asked to bring their own brushes and paints (see below).  Places will be limited to ten students.  Please note, there will be no session on Mon Feb 13th due to half term.

The session starts at 7pm on Monday 30th January 2023 and you be welcome to arrive from 6.45pm  The main doors of the building will be closed so you’ll just need to come to the front entrance of New England House and wait to be let in, or alternately call the number on the door of the building.

Booking

The course has a full price of £210 or a discounted price of £170. As it is a 'partner event', run in our studio by an independent tutor you will need to book via THIS LINK.

What you need to bring

There will be basic materials at the studio, but students will need to bring the following:
