Emma Prothero

Emma is an artist and tutor based in Brighton. She’s been working with Draw since 2021, leading Draw’s weekly Online Portrait Club and running tutored ‘Experimental Life Drawing’ live classes alongside other online and in-person sessions. Having recently graduated from the Barcelona Academy of Art, Emma is looking forward to teaching a programme of in-person courses in 2027.

What Emma says about her work:

My work explores the less tangible aspects of human experience and the complexity and unknowability of our inner lives. Through painting, I seek to give form to what is felt but difficult to articulate, creating quiet, introspective spaces through rich colour, deep shadow and luminous light. I have always had a particular draw to working from the figure, which serves as a point of entry for my conceptual ideas. My next body of work is in development, and I’m excited to share it in 2027.
