Alternative Lithography

Scarlett Rebecca

Come learn more about alternative lithographic printing using lino with artist and author Scarlett Rebecca.

Lithography is an ideal printmaking process for taking your drawing to another level and this workshop will introduce an accessible lithographic process that can be reproduced at home without specialist equipment. Often seen as a mysterious and magical process, lithography is a rewarding form of printmaking. Over this weekend we will be utilizing lino as our matrix, using it as a surface from which we will reproduce drawings using a lithographic printmaking process. This weekend course is suitable for beginners with some drawing experience and experienced artists & printmakers who would like to explore a new printmaking process.

What to Expect

Day One: We will start the weekend using handmade transfer papers to collect textures, patterns and exploring mark making, drawing on location in Brighton.  We will then bring these back to the Draw studio to collage together and develop the images, and transfer to our plates.

Day Two: We will print the images we created.  We will explore colour blending using additional layers of expressive and spontaneous marks of monotype, and will employ relief printmaking principles to carve into the plate.  We will finish the weekend with a small and varied edition of prints.

If you have any questions email us at info@draw-brighton.co.uk  The workshop will run from 10am-5pm on both days with a 1-hour lunch break - you are welcome to bring a packed lunch, or to pop to the nearby Sainsbury’s, or a café on London Road. There will also be extra teabreaks throughout the day.
