Our first artist interview in our spring ‘planographic printmaking’ term will be with printmaker Jemma Gunning. The event is free and everybody is welcome, so please feel free to share this link as widely as you would like.

About Jemma Gunning

Drawing is the foundation of Jemma Gunning’s practice. She primarily uses intaglio and lithography printmaking to convey the profound connection between artistic expression and our environment. Her prints, though initially appearing sombre, unfold as visual interpretations of decay within post-industrial landscapes; a closer examination reveals a narrative of life re-emerging in the ruins, as nature resiliently reclaims desolate wastelands, giving rise to new ecosystems.

Jemma is drawn to monumental landscapes, particularly mountains, seeking to capture their imposing force and inherent beauty. This new exploration signifies a shift in focus, hinting at her fascination with changing landscapes and the dynamic interplay between humanity and nature. Her work offers viewers a poignant glimpse into our fading heritage and a reflection on the enduring vitality found amidst decay, each piece serving as a testament to the impermanence of our cultural past and the ever-changing tapestry of life that shapes our collective narrative.

Jemma has exhibited widely and received a wide range of grants an awards, listed on her website HERE.
