This month, our artist interview series will see Draw’s Jake Spicer talking with figurative painter Jemisha Maadhavji. The event is free and everybody is welcome, so please feel free to share this link as widely as you would like.
Jemisha Maadhavji (b. 1996) is a Leicester-based figurative painter who explores individuals from different cultural backgrounds, personalities and gender, through symbolism and narrative. Her work follows a poetic journey where she is in search for beauty. Maadhavji's subject matters are a result of a huge influence in bold colours and patterned fabric - the subjects often have a personal connection with the clothing due to their culture, profession or solely because of their personality.
Maadhavji’s work has been exhibited at art fairs and exhibitions across the UK, including Nottingham Castle Museum, Mall Galleries and The Other Art Fair. A graduate of De Montfort University, she was awarded both the Christopherson Collection Award and the Two Queens Graduate Award, and has had features in Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. In 2023, she was the featured artist in an episode of Extraordinary Portraits on BBC1.
